Filmstrip Stereoscopes and Community Show & Tell

Join us for some much-needed 3D social time during our community Show & Tell plus a presentation on filmstrip stereoscopes by our BSC meeting host, Keita. We’ll also get your thoughts on some new activities we’re thinking about! The 3D fun starts this Sunday, October 18th at 2:00 pm EDT / 18:00 GMT / 8:00 pm CEST!

[film]Stripping in 3D: A Visual Tour of Filmstrip Stereoscopes
Keita Wangari | 20 min

Card, glass, reel, and slide stereoviews, and the stereoscopes that use them (Holmes, Brewster, View-Master, Realist, etc.), are familiar to most people who have an interest in 3D. Stereoviews in filmstrip form, however, are not as well known and most vintage filmstrip stereo viewers are extremely hard to find today. Keita Wangari, an avid collector of mid-century stereoscopes, will take you on a visual tour of some of the most rare filmstrip stereoscopes and their 3D films. She’ll discuss when they came on the scene and what to look for when collecting them. As a bonus, Keita will share some highlights – a “strip” tease, if you will – from her upcoming essay on the history of the men and the company behind the most successful line of filmstrip viewers: Tru-Vue.

Social: Community Show & Tell (45 min)

For our social segment, we’ll be allowing attendees 2-3 minutes to share either ONE item from their 3D collection or ONE favorite photo they’ve taken in 3D. If you’ll be sharing a photo, be sure to have it open and ready to share on your screen (don’t worry, we’ll explain how to share your screen). This will be a fun way to get to know each other and discover new things!

In addition to researching, organizing, studying, photographing, comparing, and appreciating the design, longevity, and applied uses of mid-century stereo viewers, I spend time photographing cloud formations and being a Googler.

  1. Bonjour Keita
Do you know the film stereoscopes of the French brand «Celdé»

    Made a few years in Lourdes…( 1940/1950 )

( large card consumer and memories still today )

No more information, the films in their box were of the brand “ Alain”.

I don’t have a blog ( I’m posting on Flickr) if you want views of this stereoscope, please give me an email .
    Bien cordialement

    1. Hello! Thank you for your comment. Yes, I have both the Celde and Stereo Alain viewers in my collection and also the Alain roll film. I have not added them to my website yet but I will be mentioning them in my presentation. Hope you can join! And I will look for you on Flickr. Have a great day.
